In the course of Phase 5 - Route Comparison and Selection, the team used an aisle map and questions to pick a route from the store entrance to the taco shells and back to the express checkout. Then they proceeded on to Phase 6.

In Phase 6 - List the Specific Steps of the Selected Option, the team needed to make an inventory everything a shopper would do to purchase taco shells in aisle 8. The specific steps included:

1. Enter grocery store through automatic doors located on left side of storefront.

2. Continue straight across open space passing parked shopping carts on right.

3. Stop in front of intersecting wall and locate stacked up shopping baskets.

4. Remove one basket and hold by handles in one hand.

5. Continue past checkout lanes.

6. Move left across open space.

7. Continue forward until reaching wall/aisle.

8. Turn left.

9. Proceed around checkout area.

10. Scan for aisle identification number on hanging signs.

11. Enter aisle 8 and proceed toward the back of the store.

12. Stop when reaching the Mexican food section.

13. Turn to face the shelves displaying packages of taco shells

14. Visually locate specific Taco Bell brand package on shelf.

15. With free hand, reach out and grasp specific Taco Bell taco shell package.

16. Pick up package and remove from shelf.

17. Place package in the shopping basket held by handles in other hand.

18. Turn to face toward the front of store and checkout lanes.

19. Walk to the end of aisle 8 closest to the front of the store and stop.

20. Stop and look for an open express lane (e.g., a line formed).

21. Move forward toward open express checkout.

22. Get in line or next to conveyor belt.

23. Place taco shell package on conveyor belt.

24. Wait and move up as required.

25. Remain along side the conveyor belt facing in the direction of the cashier.

26. Remove money from wallet, pocket, purse, or back pack.

27. Continue moving forward until opposite the cashier.

28. Turn and face cashier.

29. Respond to greeting from cashier.

30. Respond to the question "Paper or plastic?" if asked by cashier.

31. Wait while cashier completes transaction and determines cost.

32. Listen as cashier specifies the total amount owed.

33. Extend money to cashier until taken.

34. Wait while cashier gets ready the receipt, change, and bagged purchase.

35. Take from the cashier any change, receipt, and bagged purchase as given.

36. Turn toward the front of store and advance to the exit doors.

37. Continue ahead as doors open automatically.

38. Completely exit store.

Next, the team recorded the steps on a Task and Discrepancy Analysis Form and proceeded on to Phase 7 - Complete the Discrepancy Analysis.
