PHASE 5 SIMULATION - NEIGHBORHOOD NOTE: No images of persons with disabilities appear in these simulations.
Mike will be walking to his first hour class while other students will be in the hallways. Although Mike can probably learn the layout of any of the four routes, his team realizes that the crowded conditions will effect his ability to stay on track and not become lost. Therefore, Mike's team decides to consider each route when the halls are filled with other students. The "best" route for Mike will be one he can follow even though other students will be moving in all directions around him.
ROUTE 1
This route avoids the crowded conditions altogether by using the sidewalk around the perimeter of the school. However, Mike would likely be the only student walking outside, weather conditions could be a factor, and he'd have to travel next to the parking lot at a time when heavy traffic would be present.
ROUTE 2 This route is inside but require three alternating turns. Students also will be opening and closing lockers located along the walls of one hall, making it more difficult to maneuver.
ROUTE 3
This route is similar to Route 2. Although the first turn is farther down a more open hallway, there will still be students at lockers and alternating turns to remember and follow.
ROUTE 4
This is the most direct route. From the entrance it goes straight down the hall past two intersections to the cafeteria, makes one left turn following along the wall to a door on the opposite side, and then proceeds across a short open space to the classroom.
