PHASE 5 - TRAVEL OPTION COMPARISON AND SELECTION
Travel Option Comparison and Selection
Team members need to compare and contrast all of the options identified during Phase 4. The team may want to use the Travel Analysis Guide to assist with this process. They then will select the most appropriate option for the activity and the individual.

STEPS TO COMPLETE
1.
Compare all options using the Travel Analysis Guide.
2.
As a group, decide which option appears to be the "best" fit for the person in the given activity and/or environment.
3.
As a group, reevaluate the selected option, making a list of any possible risks, issues or concerns not previously addressed or still considered problematic by one or more team members. If there are no concerns, continue to Phase 6. If there are concerns, see Step 4.
4.
Decide how to address the remaining concerns. Consider bringing on new or additional team members to help. For example, a team might determine that an Orientation and Mobility Specialist must be consulted to check a traffic or other safety concern. Or, the team may want to discuss with a Physical Therapist the risks involved for a person climbing a set of stairs. If the team ultimately determines that the option is not suitable for the individual, a new activity, route, or location must be selected and the process begun again.

OUTCOMES
A route or movement option is selected in which the student or consumer can travel safely.

TIME ALLOCATED
Steps 1-3 may take up to an hour to complete. If Step 4 is necessary, it may take the team 2-3 weeks to complete Phase 5.
